2nd in the Summer Series

I am always quick to post when we do well but it takes me a while when we don't. Too vain I guess. We came 5th two races in a row. It may not seem too bad until you realise that there were only 6 boats in race 5 and 5 in race 6. In the 5th race a small misjudgement at the start saw us get a little too close to Solveig and had to do a 720 degree turn to exonerate ourselves and we never caught up. The last race we had to do well to retain our first place and sadly failed. I didn't get into a good place for the start and in the strong winds we were not as competitive as we hoped. No reflection of the crew who worked extremely hard and very much deserved their beer at the end. Even I am stiff today having had a harder job on the helm than usual in the big gusts.
The gusts are the grey arrows, red is wind over15 knots - lots to the non sailors.
We could have protested F-Sharp, the eventual winner, for being in prohibited water after the preparatory signal but it seemed too petty. They sailed straight off the moorings across the start line. Pretty slick but not exactly legal. Oh well, we live to race another day - next Sunday in fact in the Manly Women's Challenge in the all female crew division. Lets hope we do a bit better there. Although the forecast at the moment is for very light winds indeed, quite the opposite of this week at the opposite end of the harbour.
